Keep your eyesight for longer with these great tips

As we age our eyesight tends to lose its sharpness and effectiveness, and if not taken care of, eye issues can occur which can render the sufferer blind!

It is important to take care of yourself not just to look good but to feel good, and many people forget one of their most important features – their eyes.

At Peter A. Martin MB BS in Bondi Junction, we are solely focused on the health of your eyes, which is why we have compiled some tips to get you thinking about your eye health.

ONE – Eat right for good eyesight

We all know that eating well means giving your body the best chance of survival, and it is no different for the survival of your eyes. Things you should consume to aid your eyesight include omega-3 fatty acids, Carotenoids and Vitamins C, E and A.

TWO – Exercise your body and help your eyes

Cardiovascular activity three to four times every week is not only good for your overall health, but also the health of your eyes. Exercise means an increase in blood flow which results in cells being restored and fed more quickly.

THREE – Protect your eyes!

Intense sunlight is never good for the eye, which is why at Peter A. Martin MB BS, we urge you to protect them by wearing sunglasses with ultraviolet light protection. This is especially important for the elderly, where sun damage is more likely to cause extensive damage.

FOUR – Stop smoking

Smoking has been proven to cause a myriad of issues, and this is no different for the eye. Statistics show a correlation between smokers and those with macular degeneration, so put out that cigarette!

FIVE – See an optometrist regularly

Children under 12 and adults over 40 should be getting their sight checked regularly, as generally developments and changes in the eye occur in these stages of life. If a change in your vision occurs, book to see your doctor as soon as possible.

If your eyes are giving you trouble, visit us at Peter A. Martin MB BS in Bondi Junction to restore, repair and rejuvenate your eyes with the highest quality ophthalmology and oculoplastics available.
