What to think about before undergoing eyelid surgery

When considering any form of surgery you need to consider factors such as: why you’re having the surgery, who should perform your surgery, how long the results will take to show, and whether you’ll need to take time off work as a result of the surgery.

6 factors to consider about eyelid surgery

  1. Find the right doctor

Doing research to find the right surgeon for your needs is an important first step. Don’t be afraid to ask as many questions as you feel necessary to ensure you remain comfortable.

  1. Don’t let price be the determining factor

Sometimes you do get what you pay for. Eyelid surgery is a delicate procedure and ideally you want the most qualified and experienced surgeon who is going to create the best results for you.

  1. It’s not a transformation

By this we mean good eyelid surgery is about enhancing the appearance of your eyes, not completely changing to look different.

  1. You might have to wait up to a year for results

We recommend patience. Because of how sensitive your eyes are they will take a fair amount of time to heal. In some cases this healing time can be up to a year. Of course there are other factors to take into consideration such as what eyelid surgery you had, whilst also taking into consideration your body’s natural ability to heal.

  1. Don’t wear makeup post-op

For a week or two after your surgery we strongly advise that you don’t wear eye makeup or contact lenses as these can slow down the time it takes for the swelling to go down. Not wearing eye makeup until the swelling goes down is also a faster way for your eyes to properly heal.

  1. Take time off

This is important. When considering any form of surgery consider how much downtime you’ll need. For people this may only be a week and for others two weeks. It is best to consult your eye surgeon about this during your initial consultation. Down time is important to help the healing process and should not be considered optional.
